Overview
Prior to launch, Gameloft engaged our team to conduct an independent UX and UI assessment of an upcoming mobile game.
Working as part of a specialized group of UX and UI consultants, we evaluated a beta version of the product to identify usability risks, onboarding challenges, interface inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve player retention, engagement, and commercial performance before release.
The objective was to provide actionable recommendations that could help the team make informed design decisions during the final stages of development.
My Role: UX/UI Consultant
I participated in a multidisciplinary review team responsible for analyzing the game's player experience, interface design, and overall launch readiness.

My responsibilities included:
- Evaluating critical player journeys and onboarding experiences.
- Identifying usability issues and friction points.
- Assessing interface consistency and visual communication.
- Reviewing monetization and reward presentation flows.
- Benchmarking the experience against genre conventions and platform standards.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize findings and recommendations.
Evaluating Launch Readiness
The game was approaching release, making it critical to identify issues that could negatively impact player perception during the first sessions.
I reviewed key gameplay loops, onboarding experiences, and progression systems to uncover risks that could affect player understanding and early engagement.
Focus Areas:
- First-time user experience.
- Learnability.
- Player onboarding.
- Progression clarity.
Identifying Player Experience Risks
Through flow analysis and hands-on testing, I identified friction points that could create confusion, increase player error, or interrupt gameplay momentum.
To better understand usability challenges on mobile devices, I also developed interactive prototypes that helped validate ergonomics and interface interactions under realistic conditions.
Focus Areas:
- User flow analysis.
- Mobile ergonomics.
- Error prevention.
- Interaction design.
Benchmarking Against Genre Standards
The review included a comparative assessment against established mobile game conventions and platform guidelines.
This helped identify opportunities where the experience could better align with player expectations while maintaining the game's unique identity.
Focus Areas:
- Genre conventions.
- iOS and Android standards.
- Visual consistency.
- Competitive analysis.
Strategic Recommendations
The final phase of the engagement focused on translating findings into actionable recommendations.
We organized findings based on severity, player impact, and implementation complexity, helping the development team prioritize improvements for future iterations.
Deliverables included:
- Prioritized findings matrix.
- Improvement opportunities and design hypotheses.
- Competitive benchmarking analysis.
- UX and UI recommendations.
